Astros reliever Smith ruptures Achilles tendon

Houston Astros right-handed reliever Joe Smith underwent surgery to repair a ruptured left Achilles tendon on Tuesday, Astros President of Baseball Operations and General Manager Jeff Luhnow announced Thursday.
