Schmidt’s vision inspired iconic red bird logo
There are few logos in baseball as closely linked to a team as the “Birds on the Bat” is to the Cardinals. And that’s thanks to Allie May Schmidt’s inspired decision to create cardinal centerpieces with cardboard and twine for an event featuring then-GM Branch Rickey in 1921.
