Teams set 40-man rosters ahead of Rule 5 Draft

In a perfect world, every team would be able to protect every prospect it wanted to. Unfortunately, there are only 40 spots on each organization’s roster, which leads to some very tough decisions this time of year. The deadline to make those choices is looming on Monday at 8 p.m. ET. Some moves have already been made, but that’s when all teams have to figure out who lands a coveted 40-man spot and who gets left unprotected. The latter group will be exposed to selection by the 29 other teams in the Rule 5 Draft, at the Winter Meetings in Orlando, on Dec. 14.
