Big flies give Tribe edge over Tigers
Roberto Perez not only helped guide another strong game for Cleveland’s pitching staff behind the plate, but also belted the decisive home run in a 2-1 victory over the Tigers at Progressive Field. His leadoff shot off Detroit reliever Alex Wilson in the eighth inning put the Tribe ahead for good in the team’s third straight victory. The homer surrendered by Wilson followed seven solid innings from Tigers lefty Matthew Boyd, who gave up a first-inning home run to Jose Ramirez and little else. Boyd relinquished three hits and ended with four strikeouts against one walk. Tribe starter Josh Tomlin kept the Tigers at bay over five scoreless innings.
