Matz goes 5 strong, bats break out late in win

Steven Matz took a big step forward with five strong innings and the Mets’ bats broke out late to take the second game of this series with the Giants. After Chris Stratton had kept New York off the board through six, the Mets plated two in the seventh and four in the eighth, with Michael Conforto’s three-run blast the difference. Jeff McNeil went 4-for-4 to pace the Metropolitans, while Evan Longoria’s two-run homer in the first accounted for most of San Francisco’s offense.
