Adams’ jack lifts Cardinals in Waino’s return

Matt Adams crushed a three-run homer in the eighth to power the Cardinals and snap the Pirates’ five-game winning streak in the series opener. Josh Harrison had given the Bucs a lead with his homer in the sixth inning. Adam Wainwright, who gave up a pair of early homers to Colin Moran and Starling Marte, battled through five innings and picked up his 1,600th career strikeout in his return for St. Louis.
