Archer authors his best outing with Bucs in win

Chris Archer struck out eight and allowed one run in seven strong innings in his best start since being acquired, leading the Pirates past the Royals, 2-1. Adam Frazier hit a tiebreaking homer in the fifth inning for the Pirates, who completed a three-game sweep and have won five in a row. Heath Fillmyer allowed two runs in seven innings, but the Royals were unable to back the rookie right-hander’s strong effort.
