Archer grinds out first win with Pirates at Coors
Chris Archer edged out his counterpart German Marquez to win a tight contest for the Pirates at Coors Field. Archer grinded through five innings without his best stuff, allowing a two-run homer to David Dahl to mark his only blemish. Marquez came out slow, allowing four hits and two runs in the opening frame, but he went on to finish with 10 strikeouts — including an immaculate fourth — in six innings. The Rockies had the tying runner on third with two outs in the eighth inning, but Adam Frazier’s diving play robbed Chris Iannetta to end the threat.
