Cards spoil Jansen’s return, win on 2-HR 9th

Jedd Gyorko and Matt Carpenter gave Dodgers closer Kenley Jansen a rude welcome back, as the pair’s back-to-back solo homers in the ninth inning delivered the Cardinals a 5-3 win over the Dodgers on Monday. The victory gives the Cardinals a big win to open their road trip out west, and puts them just 3 1/2 games behind the Cubs for the National League Central lead, the closest they’ve been to the division lead since June 12. Carpenter’s homer was his 34th of the season, extending his National League lead.
