Carpenter leads 2 Cards rallies, wins it with HR
The Cardinals leaned on a timely rally and an abundance of homers for a back-and-forth victory over the Phillies. Matt Carpenter led the way with 3 RBIs on a double and a ninth-inning homer — his third in as many games. Tommy Pham and Kolten Wong both added solo shots. The Phillies’ bats were equally lively. Odubel Herrera and Carlos Santana both collected their 11th homer of the season. Phillies third baseman J.P. Crawford left the game with a fractured left hand after being hit by a pitch. Philadelphia starter Vince Velasquez tossed 6 1/3 strong innings, racking up 8 K’s, but the bullpen couldn’t slam the door on the Cards.
