Fillmyer makes case for ’19 with dominant win

Royals starter Heath Fillmyer allowed a solo homer to Jose Peraza in the first inning, but he settled in quickly to help K.C. win both games of a two-game set in Cincinnati. Fillmyer struck out a career-high nine in 7 1/3 innings, and he added a scorching RBI double to notch the first hit of his career. The Kansas City offense scored in six of nine frames, with Whit Merrifield and Adalberto Mondesi sparking things with two steals apiece and Alex Gordon notching his 13th homer. Cincinnati starter Cody Reed came in riding an 11-inning scoreless streak, but he allowed three runs in just 3 2/3 innings.
