Hedges’ 3-run HR powers Padres past Cubs

Austin Hedges launched a go-ahead three-run homer in the sixth as part of his three-hit game and Robbie Erlin tossed five strong innings in a spot start to lead the Padres in the series opener. Cubs starter Mike Montgomery went 5 1/3 innings and plated the game’s first run on a fielder’s choice after a review determined Willson Contreras, who made a great slide, was safe at the plate.
