Maddon explains why Cubs turned to Lackey

Cubs manager Joe Maddon held closer Wade Davis for a save situation that never arose on Sunday night. Rather than calling on his best reliever in a 1-1 game with two out in the ninth inning, Maddon went with starting pitcher John Lackey, who served up Justin Turner’s walk-off homer for a 4-1 loss to the Dodgers.
