Papi awarded double after fan interference call stands
David Ortiz thought he had cracked a home run off Tampa Bay starter Jeremy Hellickson with two outs and the bases empty in the top of the first inning Saturday. But a Red Sox fan was called for fan interference, turning the hit into a ground-rule double. Red Sox manager John Farrell came out to request that the umpires look the play over, and crew chief Bill Miller initiated a review of the potential home run. After a review of one minute, 58 seconds, the call on the field stood and Ortiz was awarded second base.
