Paxton, HRs pace 21st 1-run win for Mariners
James Paxton fired seven innings, notching 10 strikeouts, to help the Mariners secure a 5-4 win over the Rays at Tropicana Field on Sunday afternoon. The Rays’ offense jumped out to an early lead on Paxton, highlighted by a C.J. Cron solo homer in the fourth. Nathan Eovaldi battled a high pitch count in his home debut, but nearly left with the lead before giving up a two-run homer to Mike Zunino in the sixth. Kyle Seager’s two-run home run in the seventh would provide the winning run, but Tampa Bay nearly evened things up before dropping the series finale.
