Perez crowns 9th-inning rally with grand slam
What a difference a week makes. Royals right-hander Jorge Lopez, who flirted with a perfect game last Saturday against the Twins, left Friday night’s game against the Twins in the fifth inning at Kauffman Stadium with what the club announced was a left rib contusion.
Lopez gave up nine hits this time and three runs in the Royals’ 8-4 walk-off victory. Whit Merrifield singled in the tying run in the ninth after Rosell Herrera had doubled, and Kansas City won it on Salvador Perez’s grand slam on a 3-2 pitch from Trevor Hildenberger. The Royals have won 12 of their last 14 at home.
