Stottlemyre, New York baseball icon, dies at 77

Mel Stottlemyre, one of the most respected pitching coaches of recent decades who worked for World Series championship teams of the Yankees and the Mets — and before that was a five-time All-Star for the Yankees in the late 1960s and early ’70s — died Sunday after a long battle with bone marrow cancer. He was 77.
