Kipnis deals knockout punch after Bauer’s gem

In a 4-1 victory over the Tigers on Friday night at Comerica Park, Indians second baseman Jason Kipnis made Trevor Bauer’s stellar start hold up with a critical home run in the ninth inning. Cleveland was down to its last out in the frame, but Kipnis drilled a pitch from Detroit righty Shane Greene out to right-center field for a go-ahead, three-run home run. Bauer pitched eight innings of one-run ball and struck out 12, using 113 pitches. Nicholas Castellanos plated the Tigers’ lone run with a double in the first inning.
