Newcomb continues impressive spring

Braves left-hander Sean Newcomb continued the string of strong outings by Atlanta starters on Tuesday. Newcomb solidified his bid for a spot in the Braves’ rotation by throwing three strong innings in a 5-1 win over the Blue Jays at Dunedin Stadium on Tuesday afternoon. The big southpaw picked up the victory after he allowed one run — on one hit and a walk — while striking out two. This spring, Atlanta’s starters have combined to allow just four earned runs in 30 2/3 innings through the first 13 games of the Grapefruit League season.
