Richards opts to undergo Tommy John surgery

The Angels’ seemingly ceaseless wave of injuries has struck again, as the club learned on Thursday that right-hander Garrett Richards has decided to undergo Tommy John surgery on the damaged ulnar collateral ligament in his right elbow, costing him the rest of this season and likely the majority of next year as well. The news came a day after the club placed Richards on the 10-day disabled list.
