Smoak homers as Blue Jays hold off Phils
Justin Smoak hit a two-run homer in a three-run fifth inning, part of five Toronto extra-base hits, and the Blue Jays held off the Phillies’ late push for a 6-5 win on Friday night at Citizens Bank Park. Sam Gaviglio had a quality outing in his second start of the season, but the Blue Jays nearly coughed up a five-run lead. Ryan Tepera was able to work out of a bases-loaded jam in the ninth to shut the door on the Phillies, who got home runs from starting pitcher Zach Eflin and first baseman Carlos Santana.
