Jameson Taillon racked up a career-high 10 strikeouts over six strong innings, Jordy Mercer had three hits and four RBIs, and All-Star closer Felipe Vazquez stifled a bases-loaded rally in the ninth as the Pirates took the opener of this five-game series. The lone run against Taillon came on Jesus Aguilar’s NL-leading 24th homer, a day after he was named an NL All-Star and the top seed in the Home Run Derby.
