Tigers tag Verlander for 4 HRs to close 1st half

The Tigers hit four home runs off their former ace, Justin Verlander, en route to a win in the series finale over the Astros. Francisco Liriano threw three innings of one-run ball for Detroit, but he exited with back tightness. John Hicks, Jeimer Candelario, Niko Goodrum and Jim Adduci homered off Verlander, who Detroit traded last Aug. 31. Verlander did strike out 12 over his six innings, but he dropped his third straight decision.
