Zimmermann rides 3-run first to victory vs. KC

Jordan Zimmermann continued his mastery of the Royals with five scoreless innings, carrying a three-run Tigers opening inning that withstood late-inning drama to a 3-2 win Saturday at Kauffman Stadium. The top half of the first inning featured three RBI doubles from Nick Castellanos, Victor Martinez and John Hicks. The outburst would prove to be enough for Zimmermann and a stout bullpen effort, and closer Shane Greene navigated some bad luck to shut the door on the Royals’ rally.
